It’s always been a dream of mine to attend an Alice + Olivia fashion presentation…sort of like a five year old girl’s dream to visit Disneyland. At the 2014 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, I got my wish.
The presentation was at The McKittrick Hotel in New York City. As I entered, I was shaking and shivering. Partly because of the freezing cold and now, and partly from sheer excitement. Arriving guests first climbed a dark staircase. I practically leapt up them. At the first floor, there was a lovely lady singing in a scene ripped from the 1950s. Soon fashionable and happy girls were there to serve delicious drinks. The entire presentation was absolutely surprising. It felt like I was in another world. A dream world that only Alice + Olivia could make possible.
Alice + Olivia designer and founder Stacy Bendet was inspired by the beautifully illustrated pop-up books of Benjamin Lacombe. Bendet wrote her own fairytale: Enchanted: The Search for the Golden Monarch, presented on a paper scroll with each chapter played out by models.
The Alice + Olivia Fall 2014 line has a fairytale feel with incredible dresses with unique applications in each piece. There is a Victorian theme with gorgeous long and short exclusive dresses, blouses, and skirts. The model’s hair and make-up was the perfect touch to Bendet’s sweet and amused sense of fashion and style.
After walking through a fairy-tale world, I even bumped into my idol!
“Hi Stacy, it’s me Juliana,” I screamed. I couldn't help it.
Bendet was very kind, coming over to say hello and giving me a lovely and warm hug. I left the presentation feeling like I was flying – and knowing it’s OK to dream after 30 because I know inside there’s still a five year old little girl.
